You need to use paint designed for plastic so it doesn't crack off.

If you sanded them down and applied some of that Krylon plastic primer, and then a few coats of their plastic paint they would look ok.

Just make sure to mask the car so you don't get overspray over everything. If you really take your time and sand between coats you can probably get a decent finish for $30 or so. Probably about as good as if you had a Maco spray them.
