Check out car transport companies that use 'drive-a-way'. This is where people who want ot go to NY from Calif. will drive your car. My wife and I used it a number of times when we came back into the country to get from NY to Tex. to Col. to Calif. My wife also drove a 280sl from Calif. to NY in 1971 on her way to Europe. I don't know if the system still exists, liability may have killed it, but you might look around for it.
