Bought the burlwood shifter and installed it today. Took me 3+ hours. It's very difficult since the shifter is spring loaded and held in place with a "C" clip. It's easy to release the shifter but boy, is it hard to get back in. Plus, the new burl shifter plate sticks on to the existing plate which takes up some vertical room making it difficult to put the whole assembly back together again!
I did this
without removing the surrounding center console. The key is a MB tool that releases the old shift plate clips located on the side and a small flat blade screwdriver to release the front and rear clips.
