I too have been doing business with ********az. Was your shipping option by UPS by any chance? From an early experience on EBay, I absolutely will not accept shipping of anything by UPS to Canada. ********az does give you the option to use postal. The difference (for those that may not be aware of this) is in the brokerage process.
UPS within the U.S., and to some extent, within Canada, provides an inexpensive, fast, reliable service. I've had things delivered UPS right to my doorstep in no time flat from Toronto to New Brunswick, never a problem (on-line orders from Future Shop for example). I once had MB floormats delivered to a store near Ellsworth UPS from Chicago so I could pick them up on vacation. Great service.
However, once that package crosses the border, they add a HUGE 'brokerage fee', like the $29.00 you quote, add all possible taxes and duty, if in the mood to be real pricks, and hold you to ransom at your door demanding payment in full, or the package goes back to sender! The US Postal system hands it over to Canada Post, they charge $5.00 'brokerage fee', and usually just tax. I've never paid duty on non-NAFTA goods, ever, so I suspect that was a real bad day (for you).
I think because of volume, postal packages under $100.00 declared value will go through no fee, no taxes, 9/10 times. UPS packages are scrutinized very closely and assessed maximum charges regardless, because they make their money on this, big time.
Oh yes, I agree that buying within Canada is the way to go, but has anyone found a good aftermarket source for MB parts on the internet in Canada, similar to this site or ********az?
