Middle aged six cylinder W140s and the 300E/TE/CE-24 were optionally fitted with a 5-speed automatic tranny (worldwide markets, maybe not in the U.S.). It had to be ordered under Code No. 425 and it costed about D.M. 4,400.00.
The infamous unit fitted to those models was the 722.5 which generated a lot of problems (more so than the updated 722.6).
That is why SilverSpear car have the sfhit pattern 2-3-4-D. The 722.6 introduced the pattern 1-2-3-4-D were 1st could be directly called. I would suggest a search under "722.5" to check on the problem.
