Had the car back for several weeks now from the independent. He gave up. Didn't have the equipment to check everything, and MB wouldn't discuss selling anything to him. He does not believe it's hardware, or at least not anything major. Thinks it's more likely electrical/controller issue. Here's the interesting thing I found out. If I put the car in 4 rather than D when it's cold, it does great. No delayed upshifts, no slips. Works like it should. Drive it this way for 2-3 minutes and put it in D and it never misses a beat. Was out of town on business this past week and decided to take it on the road, and again, not a single problem. Drove over 600 miles. Soooo, for now I'm starting in 4th each day. Will still look for someone (dealer or otherwise) who is willing to troubleshoot. Just can't believe it needs a new tranny the way it works once it has warmed up for a few minutes.
