I have not seen any of the newer ones do it- or none that I have noticed. Yesterday (Friday) the lady at work that has the 2000 S430 (perhaps a S500) was leaving. I was out on the bench and had a perfect view of her car. I noticed when she put it in reverse and drive- the car stayed perfectly level and the shifts into reverse then into drive seemed silky smooth. I took notice of this, because I was thinking how I wish my 380 went this smoothly into reverse.

Mine is smooth into reverse when the tranny temperature is cool and as mentioned, it raises in the rear, but when the tranny is hot, it harshly bangs into reverse (at times) and not much movement noticed then. When shifted into drive, it is pretty smooth at all times, but still sometimes stalls out at warmer temperatures.

maybe one day I will get around to removing and cleaning the idle solenoid.
