Yesterday - March 13, 2006 - we got a letter at home from MB
saying that our 1980 300D had not yet had its aluminum
air filter housing replaced under a MB recall from 1981.

The original letter (1981) was enclosed, and a request to visit the dealer
to have this lower air housing replaced.

The aluminum housing may crack and cause some problem.

I called the dealer service department, they were suprised I would
get a letter 26 years later, but agreed to take care of it.

Now I am thinking that my retro aluminum housing may be collectible.
I am inclined to keep it the way it is. I'll ask if they can let me have the
parts and do it myself, so I can keep the original (probably not).

I am continually amazed at how well MB takes care of its customers.
Even years after the sale.
