After searching this message board, I found lots of info leading me to the conclude the squealing is from the air sampling motor/fan. The part cost $64 (after 10% MBCCA discount) at the dealer in Tysons Corner VA. Replacement is through the passenger side air vent as described in the forum. Thanks to all.
