and the case of beer goes to Arthur.

It would then appear that the 1989 300TE (my car) does require an air temperature sensor.

I suppose that the next question would be what effect, if any, does a a missing sensor have onthe car's driveability? And, would the occasional engine cutitng out that I have experienced, while the car is coasting, be related to the missing sensor?
