Years ago a friend of mine, who managed an MB dealership, told me to add a cup of ATF to the fuel of my 300TD. Suggested I do this every second or third tankfull. He indicated that this was approved by MBZ. I buy it at the 99 cent store and haven't had any problems for 15 years and 200,000 miles, with the fuel system.
