Are you doing this with the front chain cover off ?
If not, there is a pin you've missed down lower in all the power steering dirt.
.....................with the new upper chain guide in hand,offer it up to where it would be and eyeball for the lower pin location.
However, I always renew the upper sprockets along with a new chain/guides, so getting guides out was not a problem.
