Avons on a Merc????

Okay, so I need tires on my 300D. I call my tire broker and tell him I'm looking at two tires, Conti-Tourings and Michelin MXV4s. I'm bumping up to 205s, and I want a good tire. He says he can't get Contis like I want and the Michelins have to be ordered special in my size. Not too many people want ANYTHING in a 14 these days... So, he mentions to me that he has a set of Avons to show me. OE on Rolls Royces and Benlteys, they are supposed to be a tremendous tire. One problem, what Mercedes do you know of has English made tires on them????

So I look at the tire, VERY nice tire, basically a MXV4 at 70% the cost. Same tread ratings, temps, everything. They even said "made in England" on them, like this is supposed to be a good thing. Turns out they are made by Cooper, Avon being a an owned subsidiary, and they are supposed to be making a comeback in the states.

So, was I wrong in not choosing the Avon over the MXV4? Am I a shmuck for even wanting MXV4s??? Nonetheless, they should be better than the Cooper Trendsetter SEs I have on the ride now.
