1986 560 SEL

Would there be a replacement or substitute for the FPS?

I'm thinking along the line that a $40 mustang O2 sensor will sub for the $150 mercedes O2 unit and wondered whether there were viable alternatives to the hard-to-find Mercedes FPS.
