Is anyone else as disgusted as I am by these idiots waving Mexican flags in OUR country?

Before I go on I should state (as many of you already know) that I was born in Cuba. My wife was born in Mexico. We are, however, Americans. We came to this country to escape the crappy, miserable lives that awaited the two of us in our respective countries. Cuba is a hellhole, Mexico is not far behind. I've never had any interest in moving back to Cuba and my wife has never had any desire to move back to Mexico. We have raised our children as Americans. I remember one day when some well-meaning (but totally clueless) teacher asked my son: "Are you a Cuban-Mexican-American?" To which my son replied: "I am an American. What are you, a Norwegian-American?"

Like other immigrants in the past, we have taught our children that they are Americans, first and last. Yes, we have also taught them about their cultural roots, nothing wrong with that. But we have done so within the context that they are Americans whose parents came here from other countries.

The whole illlegal immigration debate has gotten so out of whack. These people come here illegally. They break the law to come here. They already have a lawless mentality when they enter the country. Why should they be allowed to stay? Why should we be asked to accept into our midst people who have so little respect for our laws?

Yes, these immigrants are hard working, but so what? Why should they be allowed to skip ahead of the immigration line, in front of other equally hardworking people?

Every country in the world has tough immigration laws, why shouldn't the U.S.? You know what happens in Mexico to people that enter the country illegally from Guatemala, or other countries? They get beat up by the "federales" (if they are not raped and robbed first) and are then shipped back to wherever they came from. I think it is the height of hypocrisy for the Mexican government to make demands on our government, when their own treatment of illegal immigrants entering Mexico is almost barbaric.

If these Mexican demonstrators are so proud of their heritage that they feel compelled to fly their flag everytime they get the urge to riot...er, I mean demonstrate, then why don't they go back to Mexico and fly their flag to their heart's content. A country that cannot maintain the integrity of its border will soon fall victim of chaos. We already seem to be headed in that direction.

As a taxpayer, I am sick and tired of paying for social services for illegal aliens so they can then take to their streets and wave their country's flag all over the place. Am I the only one here who feels the same way?

Incidentally, the argument that illegal aliens contribute to the economy is completely false. By allowing the wholesale importation of illegal aliens, all we are doing is importing Mexico's poverty to our country. We are creating a permanenent underclass of perennially poor people. Poor people who will never be able to rise above their poverty and who will continue to drain our nation's resources. Parts of California and the Southwest already resemble a third world country. When will it all end? Parts of L.A. already resemble the city depicted in Blade Runner.

The only ones who benefit from illegal immigration are the companies that hire and use illegal aliens as cheap labor. Cheap labor puts money in the pockets of corporate fat cats while taxpayers get stuck footing the bill for social services.

It is not racist to want to protect our country's borders. It is not racist to insist that people who come here do so lawfully. And finally, it is not racist to insist that people living here show at least a modicum of love and respect for their adopted country, its institutions and its flag.

Cuba's flag and Mexico's flag are nice, but I have pledged my allegiance to the good old stars and stripe. If that makes me a racist, then so be it.
