there is a good chance that they are INTERCHANGABLE but not identical. i dont know the difference either, but have traded a 140d tranny into a 280e and it works fine but the shift points are at the rpm needed for a 240, which is a lot lower than what is optimal for the 280e.

but it got a good car back on the road for very little money. i did it about 7 years ago and my brother is still driving the car with no trouble with the tranny.
