The intention of the guy doing this is to replace the very expensive early 107 system components. I think that he will consider the project a complete success if he gets it running as good or better than original with as good or slightly better gas mileage.
Going from that point, though, is going to take a lot of work on a dyno, with a lot of metrology equipment ($$$$) on everything. The megasquirt II can supposedly also control timing. If someone actually came up with a usable system for 107's that delivered at least as good power, performance and/or economy that would pass emissions (in most places, anyway) they would definitely have some customers IMO.
I was at a car show where a guy had an unbeleivable 190e with goodies up the yin-yang and a laptop on the passenger seat that monitored/controlled everything!
