As said before, the nomenclature used on all M.B.s dashes is plain international signing.
European cars tend to rely more on this graphic standard due to all the different languages talked in such a small continent.
It makes it easier for a driver, regardless of the language he/she speaks, to understand the meaning of a buttom or a warning light.
And, as said before also, is American cars which I consider outdated and old-fashioned: labelling every single buttom and warning light with regular English words. It has been proven that international signing is faster and safer to understand than regular words.
