Now we have an all volunteer military so the people who join are not forced into something they don't believe in, that makes a big difference.

My father volunteered to serve. He volunteered to serve in a conflict predicated on lies and deception. He came back wounded and bitter about what his government had asked him (and forced others) to do. He's not proud of what he did. War is not inevitable, it's a choice, and a weak one at that.
