Here goes, call me a dope but.....

On a 1990 300CE (W124 Coupe), the temp guage reads 40deg then a small space, a line, larger space, then 80deg, small space, a line, larger space then 120deg. My question is is the line above 80deg, is it 100deg or 90deg?

My aux fans dont turn on until my guage reads between the unknown line and the 120 mark, leading me to believe the line is 90deg. Is this untrue or are my aux fans comming on way too late?

Sorry for a dumb question. Thanks for your input.
