Ah, but that is the great unknown at this time. Some plans that have been tossed about would lead one to believe several rungs could be attained in one fell swoop. Other plans make each successive rung that much harder.
Right now, the current administration has a
little unwritten rule...for the next position higher (and all above that) they are requiring HQ time in DC, not detail time but hard time on the ground. Not my cup-o-tea. I did interview a week and a half ago, I'm sure the selection has been made and the name is being vetted. Maybe we'll find out by weeks end. My closest competitor (my book) has 6 years HQ time, while I have experience actually running a post. I guess it all boils down to who the guy with all the stars wants
