Hmmm .. It almost sounds like your alarm is going off, but the horn was disconnected.

Just for kicks, try this: Once you have unlocked the door, keep the key in the door, and "unlock" it a second time while the door is open. If that makes the flashing lights stop, then there is something buggy with the alarm system.
