for the more prosiac land turtle, i would think the likelyhood of cutting a tire is small but possible.
of course some of the snapping turtles get pretty big too. 2' diameter is quite possible. so on one that big, all bets are off.
and if you encounter on in person, it is not a good idea to tease them with your fingers. their heads can strike out like lightning!
