The gears are bad and it's a very simple fix. Mine went out in my 560sl. Call Rick at Overseas Speedometer ,1-800-444-0292, great guy. He'll tell exactly how to do it. I took about 30-45 minute and that includes pulling the steering wheel. His web site is www.speedometer.com
