Keep in mind that every ton of car that you speed up you have to also slow down and get around curves. Skidding out of control and killing your occupants in a crash only helps serve your attackers needs.
Im not sure what engine Lady Di's 140 had it in but it had enough power so that her trained chauffer lost control of the car in a high speed chase killing most of the occupants of the car.
