Temp gauge
Hi Guys:
On earlier cars the outside temp was an option, I want to say M1 option package, but not sure, doesn't matter much anyways. I believe if you have a trip computer you should have the outside temp gauge. By your observations, assuming you can see an actual temp, which changes from time to time and seems accurate, then the bulb is just blown that illuminates the temp, similar to how the odometer and clock light up. Easiest way to tell if you have it or not is to look for the temp sensor. It sticks through a hole in the black plastic "mesh" insert in the bumper, I believe it's over on the drivers side. Pretty easy to spot if it's there, black plastic probe, like the pointed end of a pen. If you don't have it, if you stare at the area where the LCD is it just looks like "888", but if you can make out an accurate temp reading, I think someone was too lazy to pull out the cluster. "Wishful thinking" maybe. It's not that bad of a job.
