P0455 code - repair question

Hi, my check engine light has been coming on lately with a code - P0455. The first time it came on, I discovered that I had accidentally bumped and disconnected a hose that attaches to the purge control valve. I reconnected the hose, cleared the code, and continued to drive.

A couple days later, the light came on again and has continued to come on every few days (I try something, clear the code, then it comes on again).

Also, I started to notice an occational fuel odor inside the car. I don't have the testing tools, so I think I have to replace parts. From reading posts, it sounds like parts should be replaced in this order:

1. Gas cap
2. Charcoal canister shut-off valve
3. Purge control valve

I've already replaced the gas cap, so now I'm about to do the Charcoal canister shut-off valve. Does this make sense, or is there a better way to proceed? Thanks for the help,

Don
