One of the things we replced was all the vacuum lines (visible ones at least)

The pedal dropping 2/3 down is a mistery. If it is in this state I can open the hood and push the throttle linkage about 2" without any response from the motor, almost as if the traction controll is detuning things....not sure how this works....some times starting up the ASR light comes on and stays on, then throttle response is bad. Switch of and try again and then it is sometimes normal.
Problem is diagnistics is all over the scene. This tells me we need to replace the obvious, bad wiring and seeing that that is a comon issue we are doing that next.
