I recently purchased from a private owner a restored 1980 240D. I would like to repair the glove compartment door since I haven't been able to find parts. The problem is that after I push the lock to the right to release the latch, I must manually pull the lock back to the left and manually reset the latch so it will engage the strike. This isn't really a burden except, the key will only turn in the lock if it is to the right (e. i., open) and it will not turn when the lock is in the left position, which it must be to close the latch. If anyone could give me some advice, I would greatly appreciate it. Though I have wanted a Mercedes all my life, this is the first opportunity that ever presented itself, and I am delighted. I have a Haynes technical manual and look forward to doing some work on the car myself.
