NPR, again under fire from never-give-up conservatives, had a great piece on
"All Things Considered" today:
Agraria, a new restaurant in the upscale Georgetown section of Washington, D.C., is owned and operated by the North Dakota Farmers' Union. The goal is to make sure power players in the nation's capital keep the American farmer in mind.
It's sort of like farmers markets taken one step further -- straight from the farmer to the restaurant. Everything is from a family farming operation, including shrimp from family operated businesses in Leesyanna who they say are hurting from low priced shrimp from Asian shrimp farms, a whole 'nother apalling subject.
I heard a wheat farmer say on NPR once that if an extra penny was charged for each loaf of bread, and if that penny went directly to the farmer, it'd make the difference between prosperity and slowly going broke.
