This is true. I think you have to be willing to fight this guy. When I was younger I faced a similar situation once and when I made it clear I would fight the guy, the problem went away. To my surprise I didn't even have to fight him, he just backed down. Of course, you might not want to do it at work if you like your job...
Hey, worst case scenario is you lose a fight, which is nothing in the grand scheme of things. If you think he would try to use some sort of weapon, pick your time and place carefully.
