Thanks Mike.
It appears to me that MB designed two methods of holding the fabric liner to the inside of the trunk lid.
First they have a plastic plug with a removable center that looks like a drywall anchor. The plug has two legs and is inserted through the fabric liner and into the inside metal liner and when the center piece is inserted in the plug it spreads the legs of the plug clamping the plug in the hole in the inside metal liner of the trunk lid.
Second attachment method is the rivet and holder assembly with the rivet being attached to the plastic backer of the fabric liner and the holder glued to the inside metal trunk liner. It appears to me that the holder is designed to allow the rivet to slide in and out. The problem is the two that I can see would require the fabric liner to move in opposite directions so I’m stuck trying to figure out this disassembly process
