and congrats on report BUT fixing the AC might almost buy him a new hip joint!
I am saving for a complete dash replacement on a '87 300D, while its out it gets a new evaporator, vacuum pods and maybe a new heater core. I have to do most of it myself, its a 1 + day job, at the going rate thats about $1500 labor
AC parts another story. I was lucky to find a new compressor and have the condensor, drier, etc now need around $300 in hoses. Whatever you do, DONT CONVERT TO R134A!
The PO spent $2500 on AC so hopefully its a clean system, not contaminated like mine
