I fixed my third brake light today. The wire was broken at the same place. Here's some additional information. To make the top splices pull the slack from the trunk hood (you can push it back after you make the splice). To make the bottom splices pull the slack from below the trunk hinge (again, you can push the wire back after you make the splice). At both far ends cut the insulation and wire; run new thicker gauge wire; leave enough slack to lay the new wire comfortably; make splices at both ends and re-install insulation and cover. Now you will have a thicker wire run form the trunk hood down through the hinge, and the wire shouldn’t break again.
