I would tend to agree that 40 G-notes would normally be a lot of money for this type of car.

Three things detract from the car's price (in my opinion). 1. The holes on the passenger side of the console left behind by a cell phone installation. 2. The cheap, OEM steering wheel. I would want the leather, Benz sports steering wheel. 3. When they installed the Euro lights and removed the headlight wipers they apparently used the old cover panels and so you can see the holes where the wiper motors used to be. I would have used new panels like I did with my car, or at least cover up the holes.

On the other hand, this car seems to have "good provenance" (you need to read the ad on The Star, and that adds value to the car.

LOL... I'm more of a UCLA fan than OSU ;-) (dad taught dentistry at USC though )

Well... either way you look at it, 40 G's is a lot of money for a W124. And when the car is commanding a high premium.. it should be in the best shape possible. Those minor faults should NOT be there like you pointed out.

One thing I find strange is the AMG speedometer. I've seen several types of AMG speedometer.. one is only in Km/H and another is a rare Mph with Kmh. Since the car was US spec, and nearly all US car's I've seen(doesn't matter what make) have both Miles and Km/h on the speedo. I don't understand why it would only have Mph on the speedo. Either way... the jewel in the entire car is the engine of course.
