They call it petrified lightning. The intense heat from the lightning turns the sand into glass. It form long fingers that to me look like lightning. I am sure you could google it.
The type of sand is the variable for color. I believe the aqua blue is the most valuable and is found in Utah - (maybe the sodium?? from salt).
