Part of the heat shield around my C280 exhaust system rusted off. The mechanic removed the rest of the heat shield, stating this was the proper repair. He did not recommend replacing the exhaust system because it is in good condition. Does removing the heat shield on the exhaust system damage the car in the long run? Will the exhaust system omit excessive heat now? What do you all think about this repair? Do you recommend replacing the exhaust system?
