Keeping in mind . . .
A million dollars ain't what it used to be. I hit that a while ago, but I'm still working my butt off.
When thinking about being able to retire, I generally consider that I'll need a million dollars for every $50K a year I need to live on. That's liquid assets, not total net worth.
If you can average 6-9% growth a year, you can tap into that for 5% to live on without getting into your principal and still leaving a little to account for inflation.
I figure I'll probably need about $100-125K a year to quit working completely, hence I would need $2-2,500,000 total of income producing assets in order to no longer require a salary.
See what I mean?
