For starters, Canadian environmental laws are likely more stringent than in my country - US. The NAPA oils sold in the US @ NAPA parts stores carry an ILSAC GF-4 rating. I'm not an oil technologist, but would bet a buck, re-refined oil could not carry such a high rating.

Your comment about "too small to have their own fields" is where your credibility in this discussion goes south. As stated earlier, Ashland(Valvoline) makes the NAPA Premium Performance Oil that's sold in the US. Quaker State makes Wal-Marts oil, Exxon makes Honda's, etc.etc.

These are not re-refined oils as their ratings are to high to be such.

Re-refined oils in the US are labelled accordingly. Apparently that's not the case in Canada.
You answered you're own question. THe comment about being to small to own their own fields. That was a direct reference to NAPA's oil being outsourced as they are at the end of the day to small to own their own feilds. We all know its 4 companies providing the worlds motor oil, BP, Shell, Exxon and Ashland. As for the lordco comparsion, i said, i was told that all discount oil was re-refined including their own product(which i was comparing to the discount napa oil you mentioned). At the end of the day oil is oil, if its clean it'll never hurt you're car. New or re-refined.

"Unocal's "Firebird" brand and Safety-Kleen's "America's Choice" brand are produced in quarts, but not widely distributed. A few retailers, such as Wal-Mart and Kragen's, carry rerefined oil. Many Goodyear Service Centers also carry rerefined oil for oil changes."

"Unocal, Chevron, Safety-Kleen, Coast Oil, Rosemead Oil, and Lyondell are the major blenders. Typically, an oil blender will purchase base stock from the rerefinery and combine it with an additive package to meet specific performance requirements. Rerefined oil comes in a variety of blends, suitable for different types of gas and diesel engines."

" Jiffy Lube has begun offering re-refined oil at its stores in Minnesota, Nebraska, Iowa, Washington and California. Wal-Mart also offers motorists re-refined oil at its lube centers.
Mercedes-Benz puts re-refined oil into all of its new vehicles. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In North Carolina, more and more users are switching to re-refined oil, including the Marine Corps Air Station at Cherry Point, the State of North Carolina’s Motor Fleet Management and Moore County. "
