When my odometer went on my 88ce, I went to a VG MB indy in my area. I was not sure if I'd get a run around or have a dealer make a big deal out of an odometer replacement.

I believe these instruments were used across many models and years. There must be thousands of them out there.

Just my opinion, but I think any good indy (or maybe dealers too) will either have a bunch of these oldies around or (as in my case) a guy on call who has a bunch of these and can fix then in no time flat. Mine was entirely replaced with a matching unit including speedo dial and needle, etc.
Took the guy around 1.5 hrs or two hrs. .. about $175 to fix.

If you have it replaced, make darn sure your replacement needle is THE SAME COLOR orange/amber as the other two. I would make a point to mention this with the shop prior to doing the job.
