The heat shield on the Bendix calipers has an interference fit to the piston and is very difficult to install without the proper tool. It's spec is .004" below the piston face, but getting it there without mangling it is no easy task.

It's one of those jobs that the rebuilders have down cold, with the correct tools.............and you don't.
