Oil pump tensioner spring is what fails first.
Have seen them with tensioner blade worn nearly through too.
Have seen them with no tensioner or spring on chain and working fine.
Oil pump is a very lightly loaded chain compared to the timing chain.
Timing chain snatch tension has been recorded as high as 75,000 lbs pull.
Just never allow any hard object to fall into the oil pan !
