I tried using an inspection mirror and looking through the oil filler hole. Some say you can do it but I couldn't tell for sure if it was a single or dual chain. I pulled off the valve cover. It only took 15 min to take the cover off and there was no mistaking it. It's either a single chain like heavy duty bicycle chain or a dual row chain. It's best to use a new gasket when replacing the cover.
