An answer to my own question

I finally found out what was wrong. It was wasn't the throttle switch that was causing the fast idle. It was the thermo-time switch and the aux air valve. Now the idle can be adjusted via the idle screw. The problem of "overheating" turned out to be excessive heat produced by the catalytic converters that are located on both exhaust manifolds. I know how to solve the problem but cannot figure how to get them off?
