Thank you for the quick answer.
When I received the car two years ago, the up down function did not work.
The small plastic gear that drives the gear chain mechanism was broken and the worm gear had warn a groove in the remnants.
I found a steering column salvaged from an engine fire and after disassembly and some study concluded if I got lucky I could just replace the gear without removing the column from the car. I got lucky with a few millimeters to spare.
Now that I got it to work correctly I figured it was time to confirm HOW it was designed to work.
Other owners of newer models suggested perhaps it was an "easy out model" and thats why the gear teeth broke off!
