With an automatic, it would change the throttle angle i.e. move the rods to a different pivot point which would affect 1st to 2nd. Again, I only turn my idle up when outside temp is cold. and my engine is cold, rest of the time completely off. If I change a fuel filter I turn it up prior to starting to speed up the air purging.
