Negotiations are everything. Start out with a high price that will make him think a little bit. If he makes a counter-offer then you know he is serious. Add up all your receipts plus throw some value in there for your time. Whether the car is worth that or not, use that price. The key to making money off one of these old diesels is to get the car for a cheap as possible. Unless you are just putting used parts into the car, your outlay for parts will be the same as anyone else's. That is, new parts prices are somewhat consistent but the value of cars fluctuates. Find a cheap one, fix the typical things and make some money on it so you can go on to the next project car. Also keep in mind that the cleaner it looks the higher the asding price.
