The shifter knob on your car is probably similar to the one I had on my 94 E320. And my 500 SEC too has a similar one. The knob is attached perminately. I wanted to put a sportier Momo knob on my SEC and ended up using a razor blade to split the rubber. Then I used two channel locks to pry the rubber off the shifter shaft. What I found at the end of the shaft was a flat disc similar to a nickel. I used vise grips to break the weld that held the disc on the shaft. A little cleaning of the debris on the shifter shaft and the new shifter knob was ready to mount. It is held in place by three allen screws. Looks great!
