But what don't you like about the clutch? You don't have to remove either the engine or transmission to renew the clutch on these cars. When I drove 99's (which are very similar), I could change the clutch in an hour. Add fifteen minutes for a turbo car.

On the 96s, you had to pull the engine/transaxle to change a clutch. I had mine out 9 (nine) times.
The clutch replacement you describe sounds pretty nice. Putting a new clutch and driveline in my Bimmer was one of the harder jobs I've done on a car. Put the tranny back in by myself, you wouldn't think it would be that hard, but Lord have mercy...
