I did not remove the coil. I believe I could have removed it with the compressor installed in vehicle. With the ML once you take off the fan shroud there is a lot of room, 6" in front of compressor and that’s with the spring plate and pulley installed.

The pulley came off easily this morning without any puller. I sprayed penetrating lube in the area of the shaft last night and that made it fairly simple to wiggle off the pulley by hand.
